WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, President Donald Trump withdrew the nomination for Brent Sadler to be administrator of the Maritime Administration, which has the authority to block offshore oil and gas export infrastructure that would worsen environmental harm, increase fossil fuel reliance, and hinder the transition to clean energy. The decision comes after more than 25 groups sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, urging them to reject Sadler’s nomination.
“The Maritime Administrator has a responsibility to act in the best interest of the nation with every decision,” said Kelsey Crane, senior policy advocate at Earthworks. “It is imperative that those entrusted with such authority are committed to reducing carbon emissions and advancing the transition to renewable energy, not enabling further oil and LNG expansion.”
