New Mexico has the opportunity to reduce health and climate-harming pollution while increasing funding for our schools.
The State Land Office is considering increasing the amount of money New Mexicans earn from oil and gas produced on state lands. Right now, New Mexicans earn less from oil and gas produced on our state lands than Texans; this bill would fix that.
The proposal will also reduce methane pollution by making it even more economical to capture and bring to market all of the natural gas the industry extracts.
Everyone wins. Health, climate, pocketbooks — reducing the price on reducing pollution will benefit all New Mexicans.
