Background: The Northern Fluminense region of Brazil is facing the construction of massive, dirty extractive and power generation projects for the national grid, all powered by fossil fuels such as methane gas. The region already hosts a multitude of offshore platforms including a gas processing hub and several thermoelectric plants and their pipelines, and many more are yet to be built. This has significant impacts on the environment, land, and the health of the population.
This panel will provide an opportunity to hear about a story collection project reflecting the voices of the impacted populations in July 2025 in the region. These stories combine into a letter that aims to draw attention to the devastation caused by these projects and also to alternatives based on socio-environmental justice.
