Washington, DC – Today President Trump released the details of his budget outline. Earthworks policy director Lauren Pagel released this statement.
“President Trump’s plans to slash the EPA budget by 31% is a gift to the mining, oil and gas industries,” said Lauren Pagel, Earthworks Policy Director. “EPA needs full staffing and more resources, not fewer, to ensure the laws that protect the air we breathe and the water we drink safeguard Americans from extractive industry pollution. Without strong EPA enforcement of our bedrock environmental laws, communities impacted by mining, oil and gas development will be left helpless, in harm’s way, to fight the oil, gas, and mining industries virtually by themselves.”
