Background: President-elect Donald Trump is threatening to issue an LNG-specific executive order on his first day in office which may include fast-tracking LNG permits, reversing Biden-era regulatory pauses, and increasing leases on federal land for gas production. Recent analysis by the Department of Energy found that the proposed expansion of LNG export capacity in the United States would drive up energy costs for U.S. consumers and increase greenhouse gas emissions.

Statement from Kelsey Crane, Senior Policy Advocate at Earthworks:

“The Trump Administration is sending an early signal that their energy policies will continue to ignore science and line the pockets of big polluters and fossil fuel corporations already making record-breaking profits. The government’s own investigation has shown that exporting more LNG will increase electricity bills and gas prices at home. Policies like these will put a financial strain on working families and small businesses and undo any progress made on climate action and environmental justice.”
