Background: On Tuesday, July 29th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed the announcement of a draft rule eliminating the ‘endangerment finding,’ a foundational scientific finding that carbon dioxide, methane, and other climate-changing pollutants are dangerous to our health and well-being and must be regulated under the Clean Air Act.
Statement by Earthworks Policy Director Lauren Pagel:
“Donald Trump and Lee Zeldin are playing with fire–and with floods and droughts and public health risks, too. The Clean Air Act should protect us all, yet Trump and Zeldin are betraying everyday people and the planet to line the pockets of billionaires who bought the last election.
“Rolling back one of the foundations of climate policy in the United States is a huge step backward for our health and our climate. It’s a perverse gift to the fossil fuel industry that rejects years-long efforts by the agency, scientists, NGOs, frontline communities, and industry to protect public health and our environment. The EPA’s mission is to protect public health and the environment. We need and deserve EPA leadership that prioritizes people over polluters, not an agency that bends to corporate greed.”
