Background: Indigenous communities must be at the forefront of shaping a just energy transition.  Growing geopolitical tensions, driven by efforts to control transition minerals supply chains, are putting Indigenous communities at risk. The emergence of new mineral-hungry technologies, including for batteries and other cleaner energy technology, is exacerbating the problem. This threatens the rights, livelihoods, and cultures of Indigenous Peoples and also the integrity of the ecosystems they have protected since time immemorial.
