Background: Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) made public Governor Tom Wolf’s 2021 Climate Action Plan. This announcement comes amid increasing criticism of the Governor for inadequate climate policies to date that fall short of what is necessary to protect health and avoid climate catastrophe in our lifetimes. The Governor’s plan would reduce climate pollution emitted from Pennsylvania 26% by 2030 while the UN IPCC has insisted 45-50% cuts are needed globally to avoid more than 1.5 degrees of warming.

Statement of Melissa Ostroff, Earthworks Pennsylvania Field Advocate:

“Governor Wolf’s Climate Action Plan falls significantly short of the climate leadership this moment demands. The Governor’s administration must do more than propose half-steps and loopholes for oil and gas companies while alarms sound around the world that the climate crisis is here and getting worse.”
