Yesterday's Science Advisory Board (SAB) report confirms what so many communities living with oil and gas have known for a long time.
Fracking pollutes drinking water.
SAB scientists overwhelmingly pushed back on the Environmental Protection Agency's initial finding that fracking has not caused widespread, systemic water contamination.
“EPA’s SAB reinforced what affected residents from Parker County, TX, to Pavillion, WY, and Dimock, PA have known for decades: fracking pollutes drinking water,” said Lauren Pagel, Policy Director for Earthworks. She continued, “The science is in. EPA knows that fracking pollutes drinking water. Now is the time for us to move away from this dirty fossil fuel and replace it with clean energy that does not harm public health.”
